Have we created idols in our life that have more of our attention than God does? Someone once told me the last thing you think about before going to bed and the first thing you think about when you get up are idols. Have we pledged loyalty to Him with our lips only to betray, desert and deny when the opportunity arose? Sometimes, it seems so much easier to play it safe, keep our mouth shut and keep the peace, especially in the face of family and friends. Have we lived a life of self-denial and self control? Why are we so good at figuring the cost or benefit to us before asking what Christ wants us to do? Why do the phrases, "I want" or "I need" seem to have more power than God in my life? Lent is a time to repent, to start again. "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you alone, have I sinned, and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are justified in your sentence and blameless when you pass judgment." Psalm 51:1-4
"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit." Psalm 51:10-12

"She's only 26 years old and came to me in tears. In a whisper the girl said to me, 'I'm afraid. I think I have AIDS, but please do not tell my family'" Angie Willicore tells this woman’s story to illustrate the terrible stigma of AIDS in Liberia. Angie is a registered nurse for Ganta United Methodist Hospital in Liberia and head of the community-based HIV/AIDS counseling team. Heifer International What is cute and fuzzy and bred all over? Rabbits of course! Through the Heifer Rabbit Project, families in need receive a trio of healthy rabbits, a hutch, supplies and the training for their care. Rabbits multiply rapidly, are easy to care for, require only simple foods and little space. The gift of rabbits will help a struggling family find their way out of poverty. Token rabbits will be for sale during Lent for $5 each. The proceeds will go to purchase a Rabbit Trio and supplies (total cost $60) for each recipient family. Look for the Heifer display on the Mission & Opportunity Table. Next Missions Meeting will be Monday, March 8th at 6:30pm. |

From the Mission Committee: Linda Leonard Chairperson,
A Community Outreach Ministry of The Paper Pantry is ONE YEAR OLD! The chart below shows the number of families served each month. 415 times, we had an opportunity to share the HOPE of Jesus with a family in our community. It couldn't have happened without your generous and continuous support and prayers. Thank you for sharing your blessings with so many in our community. The next Paper Pantry is scheduled for Saturday, March 6th from 9 to 11am. You are welcome to come help, or stop by and visit with some of our guests.
